Microsoft Teams changes

News

PLEASE NOTE, before your Microsoft Teams Rooms or Surface Hub stops working.

Microsoft has adjusted the licensing models for Microsoft Teams Rooms. These will come into effect on 1 July 2023. To prevent Teams Rooms and Surface Hubs from being unable to log in from July 1, it is important to check that you as an organization have assigned the correct licenses to these devices.

The right licenses:

  • Microsoft Teams Rooms Pro
  • Microsoft Teams Rooms Basic
  • Microsoft Teams Rooms Premium
  • Microsoft Teams Rooms Standard

As we shared earlier in this article, Microsoft launched the Teams Rooms Pro and Basic Licenses last September. This is a major change from using M365/O365 (A, E, F) user licenses.

With a Teams Rooms Pro license you get access to the Pro Management portal, which offers both you and AVEX advanced options. Examples include room health monitoring, alerting, incident ticket generation, and remote configuration and management.

Organizations often manage the Teams environment themselves. In most cases this is the responsibility of your own IT department. They can see which license you have.

Tools can be found on this Microsoft blog, including automated scripts for checking licenses. In addition, the ‘how-to’ video from Microsoft Helps below provides additional explanation.
